8TH PRANITA MEHTA MEMORIAL ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION 

An epitome of excellence and diligence,Ms. Pranita Mehta was an outstanding student of NLUJ (Batch of 2017). She had been a part of the CLS since its inception and was associated with the Society as an Advisor in 2016. In addition to leading a formidable academic career both at school and university, she was second to none when it came to extracurricular activities. Throughout her time in NLUJ,Pranita performed exceptionally well in her academic endeavors as well as at various international moot court competitions. 

Pranita, a corporate law enthusiast,was also amongst the first ones in her batch to get recruited by one of India’s Tier-1 law firms. She personified not just the ideal student but also embodied the right mix of charm and cheerfulness. Also known as a dynamic all-rounder, Pranita touched everyone’s lives by becoming a major source of inspiration and delight.

National Law University, Jodhpur ["NLUJ"] is one of India’s leading law schools situated in the vibrant city of Jodhpur, Rajasthan.  NLUJ has constantly been ranked as one of the top law schools in India. NLUJ offers holistic courses like B.B.A., LL.B. (Hons.); B.A., LL.B.(Hons.); LL.M., LL.D., Ph.D.  to generate especially skilled global legal professionals.

The Corporate Law Society ["CLS"] of NLUJ was established in 2014, with the primary objective of fostering discussions related to corporate law. To facilitate such discussions, we host stimulating lectures delivered by eminent corporate lawyers on contemporary issues relating to capital markets, banking and finance,  mergers and acquisitions etc.

Further, our flagship event is the Pranita Mehta Memorial Essay Writing Competition [“Essay Competition”] conducted annually in memory of Late Ms. Pranita Mehta, an exceptional student of NLUJ. We have     successfully conducted 7    editions of the Essay Competition.

TIE-UP WITH JCLG 

Journal on Corporate Law and Governance ["JCLG"] is a peer-reviewed journal, established in 2008 by the Centre for Corporate Governance, with annual publication on contemporary corporate law issues. Along with exploring the various problems and challenges that affect the corporate world, JCLG attempts to examine and offer workable solutions, which may help regulatory and policy decisions. Their previous issues featured scholarly discourses from eminent legal practitioners, academicians, research scholars and students. Previous issues maybe accessed here: http://gov.nlujodhpur.ac.in/

JCLG and CLS have collaborated for previous editions of the essay competition. JCLG exclusively publishes the winning article of the Competition.*

INDUSLAW is an Indian law firm advising clients worldwide on Indian law, pertaining to their transactional goals, business strategies and dispute resolution. 

Founded in 2000, they have offices in Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad. The  team works seamlessly across practice areas and offices, applying their experience across all transactional, advisory, regulatory and dispute resolution matters. 

The top 3 entries will get a chance to intern with the firm.The competition will also be judged by partners from the firm.

The competition is being conducted under the proficient leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Harpreet Kaur, Vice Chancellor of National Law University, Jodhpur. Prof. Kaur has a remarkable corporate law background, with over two decades of teaching and research expertise. CLS is privileged to have her active involvement, benefitting from her profound expertise, subject knowledge of corporate laws, and transformative leadership in shaping the competition.

VISIONARY

Topics  

All students pursuing bachelor’s degree in law i.e. three year LL.B./five year LL.B. or a post graduate course from any law school/university/college recognised by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate in the Competition.

Eligibility Criteria  

 Submission: Participants must submit their essays by January 29, 2024 [11:59 PM].

First Prize: Rs. 25,000/- 

Second Prize: Rs. 15,000/- 

Third Prize: Rs. 10,000/- 

Publication with JCLG: The winning essay will also be published in the well-reputed Journal on Corporate Law and Governance(JCLG).

Internship with IndusLaw: Top Three winners of the Competition will also get the opportunity to intern with IndusLaw.

Merit Certificates: Top ten submissions will also be given merit certificates.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION  

Terms and Conditions  

*The winning essay will be published by JCLG subject to its detailed review process. The author will be required to fully cooperate with the Editorial Board and will have to incorporate changes as deemed fit by them.

**The internships with IndusLaw would be provided for a period of 4 weeks. CLS will initially connect Indus Law and the winners, post which they will have to coordinate amongst themselves to schedule the dates, location and other details of the internship.

***Neither CLS nor NLUJ can be held responsible for the performance or behaviour of the winners during the course of their internship.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES  

Submissions shall be made in MS-Word format (.doc/.docx) only. Submissions made in PDF format shall not be accepted.

Formatting Guidelines: Font and size of main text and footnote: Times New Roman, 12 point for main text, and Times New Roman, 10 point for footnotes.

Size and alignment: A4 Size with 1 Inch Margin; all text except headings should be justified.Footnoting: The participant has to adopt a uniform style of citation throughout the document.

Spacing: Submission should be 1.5 spaced (except footnotes which may be single-spaced).

Word limit: The word limit for the submission is 2500 - 3500 words (excluding abstract and footnotes). Abstract should not be more than 300 words.

Plagiarism: Any submission that is found to be plagiarised beyond 25% shall be disqualified from the competition.

Anonymity: Participant shall not include his/her name in the submission’s text in any form.

Co-Authorship: Co-authorship, up to two authors, is allowed.

Any previously published entry shall not be permitted.

Copyright of the submission shall remain with CLS.

In case of any conflicts, CLS shall be the final authority on the guidelines.

In case a participant is submitting an assignment/project, which has been submitted to their

university's Turnitin repository, CLS requires the participants to submit the associated Turnitin

report via email indicating that the plagiarism percentage is less than 25%.

No registration fee is required to participate in the competition.
